Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Seems promising Jan 5, 2010 |
| got this over the holidays. read through it and it seems promising. doing the maple syrup cleanse first then if i need to will try this. even though i havn't personally tried it i enjoyed reading it. | | | | The Real Deal review Nov 23, 2009 |
Okay--so I bought this book despite a mixed bag of reviews. My rating is more based on the program IN the book rather the the book itself. The verdict: it's an effective cleanse. I followed it for about 17 days and lost 16 lbs very easily.
I must say that the people who've reviewed this book and are complaining that the cleanse is hard make are rather comical. I'm inclined to think that a good number of those people are probably the lazy types who are used to instant gratification and magic. Of course it's hard! If it wasn't, would any of us need it in the first place??
That said, the book is a very easy read. I read it in less than a week, and a good majority of it was testimonials. Once you get through that part, the author discusses the effects of toxins in the body and how it works. Beyond that, there are details about the program. I did have a few gripes about the details of the program, as there were a few things that were unclear. For example, there was a big section listing several vegetables and their benefits (presumably to give you an idea of which veggies you might choose to "juice".) But just a few pages later, she gives a shopping list of specific veggies to buy. It's not clear if that was a suggestion or if it was law. So a few things were left up to interpretation. I had to guess a lot, but I got it right.
AS for the many other things she suggested doing, like colonics and enemas--I didn't do ANY of them. Too expensive. I did do the minimal 20 minutes of exercise (walking) and I would guess that this made all the difference in the world. (I actually still walk, and am maintaining my weight because of it.)
Bottom line:
- Must procure a juicer (or drink that VeggieSplash stuff) - Contrary to other reviews i read, I was NOT starving or even hungry if I stayed on plan with waters and teas (although I did miss chewing) - I did cheat with a small meal once, and I got REALLY sick just as she said I would (don't do it!) - you don't need to buy the supplements from the website, but mine cost me around $100 in total. Know that in advance.
If anyone has any other questions about my experience, feel free to comment back.
| | | | Why did I buy this book? Nov 20, 2009 |
| I haven't even read it. Dang it! I can see how this might actually work. The book arrived in a timely manner and in good condition. It is a hardcover book and the text is a nice font. I guess I can't really review the content unless I read it! | | | | 21 lbs in 21 days Sep 3, 2009 |
| I was extremely pleased with the condition of the book and prompt manner in which it was received. I was contacted promply on recipt of order and item was recieved exactly when they said. The price for the used book was cheap. You could not look at the book and tell that it was used, it was just like new. Thank you. | | | | The First Detox/Diet I have ever "Stuck With" Aug 27, 2009 |
This is the first detox/diet that I have ever persistently and consistently maintained this long. I am at day 8 of my diet and I'm exhausted. A lot of testimonials mention more energy and feeling great - I don't feel great (yet#. I feel tired, I have heartburn often, my mind is slow, and I'm moody. I also find that I need more sleep #at least extra hour than usual#. The caffeine withdrawal lasted a painful #headaches) three days. I'm following the diet to the T (with the uncomfortable extras like colonics/scrubbing/no deodorant almost as closely#, and I've lots 12 pounds so far #from 196lbs to 184lbs). I'm really glad about losing the weight and the instant results. My clothes are loose, my complexion is clearing nicely, my dandruff is gone, my ankles and feet have shrunk down, and my belly is noticably much smaller than it was. I'm going to stick with this plan for the remaining 14 days, and I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that it will get easier.
The book is not particularly well written - I read it cover to cover and still didn't quite understand where and how to begin. There's lots of "talk" about supplements but not much to guide what to get and where. I didn't purchase anything from the website - I went to my local natural foods grocery store. I buy mostly organic vegetables and I've noticed an incredible taste and quality difference to when I chince and buy regular grocery store produce. Since I already had a juicer (though I had to brush off the dust), the cost for this diet has been about $[...] for me so far. I'll probably spend another $[...] on vegetables throughout the remaining weeks.
The funniest thing about the diet so far has been my dreams: I keep dreaming about food! In my dreams I am cheating on the diet to eat eggs and toast and chocolate, and they're so delectable and fulfilling in those moments of dreamy delirium. Though I haven't "cheated" at all, I have juiced larger quantities of vegetables (about 2 cups instead of the 1) when I'm hungry and eaten larger quantities of the soups (a second serving later in the evening) to help with my heartburn. It's been very important to have support as I'm making this lifestyle change so it's nice that my girlfriend has been trying the juices and eating the soups with me at dinner (although she adds salt and cheese and crackers). It has been more important that I was emotionally and mentally ready to commit to the plan.
My overall review: diets are SUCH a personal thing - what works for me just may not work for you, what is torture for me may not be torture for you at all! I suggest you borrow this book from the library before spending your money and committi | | | Write your own review about 21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha's Vineyard Diet Detox
