Item Description... Overview When she is abandoned by her husband, pregnant Amish wife Moriah receives a marriage proposal from her husband's twin brother Gabriel, which she accepts despite her fear that he may also betray her.
Publishers Description Moriah's heart will only be safe with a man of his word.
In just a few short months, Moriah Miller's perfect life unravels. Newly wed and newly pregnant, Moriah is abandoned by her husband, Levi. He's left her, his family, and their faith without a backward glance. The community, stunned, rushes to the young woman's aid.
But there is someone who feels more than just sympathy for Moriah. Gabriel Miller--Levi's twin--longs for an intimate commitment that might someday bind them to one another. Convinced of the impossibility of his dream, Gabriel settles for a mere friendship with the woman he loves.
Moriah bravely goes on with her life, adjusting to her new role in their tight knit Amish community and preparing for the birth of her child. She is unaware that her brief marriage--once idealized as the happiest time in her life--may have been merely a shadow of the kind of love God has created her for. A love that can mend the soul, renew her heart, and give her a future filled with hope...if only she'll let it.

 | An Amish Novel that Takes You Right to the Heart of the Story! May 10, 2010 |
Another wonderful Amish novel to add to my quickly growing list of great books to read. Kathleen Fuller isn't quite a new-to-me author. I've read one other book by her and that was in the AN AMISH CHRISTMAS novella and her book was A MIRACLE FOR MIRIAM. That one was an absolutely wonderful story. So, when I won a book from Lena Nelson Dooley's blog, A Christian Writer's World~~Characters Who Grip Your Heart, I was tickled to learn that it was one by Kathleen Fuller.
This book is the start to Kathleen's series, Hearts of Middlefield, and such a fantastic start it was! This particular book is full of heartache, romance, friendship, family and learning to trust in God. Kathleen adds humor from the start to even out the heartache in the story, making this one unforgettable story. I loved how she added some Amish words in the midst of the conversations.....there's an index in the front of the book that tells what each word means. Moriah was a loving character but the one that tugged at my heart the most was sweet Gabriel. He was Moriah's brother-in-law, Levi's twin, and has loved her from a far for a long time. I just felt the need to pray for him through out the book as he really found a place in my heart.
All in all, I HIGHLY recommend this book to Christian fiction lovers, and of course, to ALL Amish lovers. This book will transport you right to Middlecreek to the Plain community and you will love the feeling of home you get when you read this story...I know I did! It's a 5 star book that you don't want to miss and I am anxious to read book 2 in this series, AN HONEST LOVE. | | | | Light, but captivating Apr 28, 2010 |
| This is a great Amish story -- in fact, it's two great Amish stories that fold in to each other. A little bit light and fairly predictable, but interesting and worth the time. Wonderful messages about turning to God in times of trouble. | | | | Just OK Apr 19, 2010 |
| This book was just OK for me. The portrayl of the Amish did not seem authentic in a few places. The storyline was interesting but predictable. It was light reading and a good escape. | | | | A Man of His Word Mar 21, 2010 |
| Although A MAN OF HIS WORD was the first book by Kathleen Fuller that I've read, it definitely won't be my last. Fuller has written a book that totally captivated me from the beginning. She weaves a story that makes you feel as if you are living alongside her characters in the quaint and slower-paced Amish community of Middlefield, Ohio. Moriah thinks her life is going wunderbarr; when suddenly, her husband betrays her by abandoning their faith and leaving her -- alone and pregnant. Where does her estranged husband's twin brother who's always secretly loved Moriah fit into her life? Can she bring her baby into the world and make a new life for the two of them? Will the support of her family and Amish community be enough to help her move forward? Will her fears and broken heart keep her from seeing what God has in store for her? Not only will Moriah's story of happiness turned to heartbreak, her Amish faith, and struggles of the heart keep you enthralled; intertwined, is a delightful second story of romance with Moriah's younger brother and the girl he thought he couldn't stand. Although the feeling is definitely mutual, is a change of heart even possible? What does God have in store for the two that can't seem to speak to each other without fighting? If you like stories about the Amish and you like romance, this book is a win-win read for you. In fact, if you just like one or the other of those things in your favorite books, my guess is that you'll still love it. It's one of those books that you'll want to keep on your shelf and read again. I highly recommend it. | | | | Ok read but no ah-ha moment for me Mar 20, 2010 |
My first literary foray into Amish country is through the story of Moriah Miller, whose life goes from perfect to is-this-really-happening? in a few short months. The perfect part consists of Moriah marrying her childhood sweethear, Levi and expecting their first child. The is-this-really-happening part consists of dear Levi abandoning his new wife, unborn child and Amish community for the bright lights of yankee city. Thing is Levi is also a twin to Gabriel and Gabriel has loved Moriah since he was twelve. Moriah, Levi & Gabriel struggle with key decisions, setbacks and tests of faith and after much ado, Moriah is set to live happily ever after with the man she loves
My opinion & spoiler alert - Ok, I like the story and especially the side story of Racheal and Tobias. As christian fiction goes, I can't say I had any "ah-ha" moment. I would have preferred to see the three main characters deal with the moral dilemma that would have arisen for them all if Levi had come to his senses, repentant and ready to be a new man after Moriah and Gabriel had already confessed their love for each other. | | | Write your own review about Man Of His Word (Heart Of Middlefield)
