Item Description... Overview Explains the perspective of looking at hardships and situations from different, positive viewpoints, using the fictional characters of an Alabama town and a mysterious drifter to present the perspective.
Publishers Description
A new story of common wisdom from the bestselling author of The Traveler's Gift. Orange Beach, Alabama is a simple town filled with simple people.A But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems - marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses. Fortunately, when things look the darkest - a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up.A An elderly man with white hair, of indiscriminate age and race, wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and leather flip flops carrying a battered old suitcase, Jones is a unique soul.A Communicating what he calls "a little perspective," Jones explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss.A "Your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely," he says.A "Don't squander your words or your thoughts. Consider even the simplest action you take, for your lives matter beyond measure?and they matter forever." Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what we can do about it. Like The Traveler's Gift, The Noticer is a unique narrative is a blend of fiction, allegory, and inspiration.A Gifted storyteller Andy Andrews helps us see how becoming a "noticer" just might change a person's life forever.

 | The Noticer by Andy Andrews - wouldn't it be nice? Sep 25, 2009 |
I listened through the book in a single sitting last week while I was waiting for my eyes to recover after surgery. I can imagine that if I had a paper copy, it would be one of those books that I would not have been able to put down.
The Noticer was a funny mix of what appeared to be a fiction and non-fiction story all rolled into one that followed the activities of an old guy by the name of Jones (just Jones...no mister). Jones seemed to show up at just the right time to help people who were in sticky life situations, and after he dispensed his pithy, down to earth wisdom, disappeared as mysteriously as he appeared.
I spent most of the book trying to figure out if Jones was actually a real person or a supernatural being of some sort...it annoyed me a little because it was distracting, but I guess that's part of what kept me engaged. The episodes contained within the book, while engaging on their own, felt a little disjointed and almost as though they were mini-sermons tacked together, and I often wondered how Andy switched from narrating the story from his perspective to writing about situations where he was not present. In spite of these distractions I'd whole heartedly recommend the book. It contains a swag of easily applied common wisdom for living that is refreshing in it's directness and simplicity. Jones doesn't mince words, but dispenses truth with grace and love.
Jones' gift for being able to notice little things that were in plain view, but often overlooked by others, allowed him to help his new friends see their circumstances from a different perspective. Jones often said : "In desparate times, much more than anything else, folks need perspective." And it was this theme that eventually tied the disparrate parts together for me. I finished up the book thinking that it would be nice to have a noticer around to bring perspective to my life in those moments where I can't see the forest for the trees :)
It is an inspiriting and challenging read. Well worth the investment. | | | | Perspective is everything Sep 12, 2009 |
| Read by the author who is uncanny at creating different voices for the characters in the book. I kept waiting for the punch line... something about Jesus. It never came. The book is a series of stories about an old guy that points out to people with life dilemmas that it's all just a matter of perspective. I enjoyed it and recommend it. | | | | BEST BOOK EVER SINCE "EMBRACED BY THE LIGHT"!! Jun 26, 2009 |
I have read Many books and I mean Many. Out of these there has only been one I have chosen to keep and re-read until I recently listened to "The Noticer". If I could afford it, I would purchase this audio book and give it out to others!! I also feel there is much more expression within the words of this audio book with the author reading it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND GIVE IT A RATING BEYOND THE FIVE STARS. Phyllis Mangrum | | | | Great listening Jun 21, 2009 |
| I really liked this CD. I was going to order the book and then decided to order the CD instead. I'm so glad I did. It was so interesting that I did not want to get out of the car. The author/reader was so convincing you felt he was telling you his story while sitting across a table or in your living room. I have ordered another copy to share and have already lent out my CD as well. I tagged this "hope" because the whole story gives hope - seeing things from a different perspective than what you've been focusing on. | | | | The Noticer Jun 13, 2009 |
I first enjoyed the audio tape and then passed it out to numerous friends and family. They each enjoyed it and are happy I shared with them. I feel like this would be enjoyable and helpful with whatever is going on in anyone's life at any point. Don't wait to read this, purchase and enjoy now!
